Eligibility
Eligibility for library services is determined by AFI 34-262, Services Programs and Use Eligibility, and AFI 34-201, Air Force Library and Information System. One account is created for each family and the family’s sponsor is responsible for all material borrowed. Your library card is your government ID. Failure to follow library policies can result in suspension of library privileges.

iBistro
Use iBistro to locate library material available at any of the Oahu AF/Army/Navy libraries (Hickam, Schofield {Sgt. Yano}, Ft. Shafter, Aliamanu, Joint Intelligence Operations Center, and the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies). iBistro provides locations and status of material. If the material is unavailable at the Hickam Library, it can be transferred from the holding library to Hickam.

Requests/Holds
If material is currently unavailable, you may place a hold by completing a Library Reserve Request form or online at
iBistro (the default pickup library is Sgt Yano--be sure to change this option if you want the item to be sent to another library). You will be notified (email and phone) when the material is available. If the material is not picked up within approximately seven days, the hold will be removed.

View Your Account
Visit
iBistro and choose My Account to view your account. To avoid overdues, choose Review My Account to list when charged materials are due and Renew My Materials to renew materials. Please check with the Librry Staff for your User ID and PIN.

Loan Periods
CDs, videos, and software: 1 week
New adult books: 2 weeks
Almost everything else: 3 weeks
Each account is limited to no more than 5 CDs, 3 VHS tapes, and 3 DVDs at one time.
There is no limit on books.

Renewals
Most items can be renewed once over the phone, in person, or on iBistro provided the patron does not have overdue material or the item is not on hold for another patron.

Overdue Items
Borrowing privileges are blocked when material is overdue at any of the Oahu AF/Army/Navy libraries. The block extends to everyone on the sponsor’s record until the overdue material is returned or a suitable replacement is provided. Overdue and Material Due Within 10 Days notices are emailed to patrons with an email address on file on the 1st, 11th, and 21st of each month. If a patron does not have an email address, a hardcopy overdue notice is mailed on or about the 1st of each month.

Gifts/Donations Offer Form | Donation Guidelines
The library welcomes gifts and donations as a serendipitous means of obtaining unique items that we would not otherwise acquire. However, staff time, preservation and processing expenses, available space and appropriateness in terms of our selection criteria, limit our ability to incorporate all donations into the collection. While the library provides the potential donors with a donation offer form upon request, donors must prepare their own inventories and/or obtain appraisals at their own expense. The library will not accept donations with “strings attached,” such as directives for how long they must be held in the collection or any other restrictions.
  1. Donations will be used primarily for:
    1. Replacing leased McNaughton items that we are required to return.
    2. Supplementing copies of bestsellers during peak demand periods.
    3. Swapping out” of old or out of print classics or historical materials that are in poor condition.
  2. The majority of offered items not deemed suitable for the collection, and which the offerer declines to pick up, will be considered abandoned property and will normally either be
    1. placed in the library’s paperback exchange,
    2. given to a private organization (such as the Hickam Friends of the Library),
    3. or recycled or disposed of by other means at the librarian’s discretion.
